Measured survey drawings of Nek Chand’s Rock Garden in Chandigarh, made between 2003 and 2006 during the research that documented and catalogued the garden for the first time. Plans, sections, elevations and axonometrics record its walls, courtyards, waterfalls and buildings, and how closely the sculpture is tied to the terrain. The drawings shown here are a small sample of the full survey.

The project was funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Board and supervised by Professor Soumyen Bandyopadhyay, with kind assistance from Neal Dunne, James Richardson, Ninnie Yeo, Chris Barker, Sarah Christianson, Jessica Daly, Jessica Howard, John McNally, James Patterson-Waterston, Antoinette Stephens-Woods and David Shanks.

The drawings are held in the collection of the John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Wisconsin, and were shown in The World in a Garden in 2017.
